NDT Level III Sign-Off: What Repair Stations Need to Know
An NDT Level III is the technical authority in an NDT program — responsible for establishing procedures, certifying Level I and II personnel, and interpreting standards when a question can't be answered by a written procedure alone.
For FAA-certificated repair stations, having qualified Level III oversight isn't optional — it's foundational to a defensible NDT program. But the volume of work that actually requires Level III judgment often doesn't add up to a full-time role, especially for small and mid-sized shops.
The on-demand alternative. Engaging a Level III on a contract or on-demand basis gives you the technical oversight — procedure development, personnel certification, proficiency evaluation, and audit support — without carrying the fixed cost of a full-time hire.
What to look for in a Level III partner. Responsiveness (can they turn around a procedure review or sign-off on your timeline), breadth across methods (UT, MT, PT, VT, ET), and a track record in high-compliance environments that satisfy AS9100 and AS9110 auditors.
Lion NDT provides NDT Level III services on an on-demand basis for repair stations and manufacturers — procedure development, personnel certification, proficiency evaluations, and POD studies — so you get Level III coverage exactly when you need it.
