Quality Assurance

We help organizations achieve and maintain regulatory and quality compliance — from aerospace repair stations to marine, construction, and transportation businesses — by identifying operational gaps and building robust management frameworks.

For aerospace clients, we help repair stations achieve compliance with EASA, FAA, CAAC, and CAA regulations, and we specialize in developing, reviewing, and optimizing Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Safety Management Systems (SMS) in accordance with AS9100, AS9110, RSQCM, RSM, and QCM manuals.

The same gap-assessment and management-system discipline extends beyond aerospace — we support marine, construction, and transportation organizations building or strengthening quality systems under ISO 9001, often paired with ISO 3834 for welding-specific quality requirements.

From targeted gap assessments and risk evaluations to internal audits and corrective action planning, we provide comprehensive reports and tailored recommendations to support total regulatory readiness.

Repair Station Manuals and Aerospace Quality Systems

An FAA-certificated repair station must keep a Repair Station Manual (RSM) and a Quality Control Manual (QCM) acceptable to the FAA (14 CFR 145.207 and 145.211). Some stations combine the two into a single RSM/QCM.

We write, revise, and review these manuals so they match how your shop actually works — capability list, training program, inspection and release procedures, calibration, and corrective action — and we build AS9110 quality systems for maintenance organizations and AS9100 systems for manufacturers.

For stations that also hold EASA, CAAC, or CAA approval, we map each authority's added requirements so one manual system holds up to every auditor.

Safety Management Systems (SMS)

A Safety Management System is a structured way to identify hazards, assess and control risk, and confirm the controls work. Since December 2, 2022, EASA has required Part-145 maintenance organisations to run a management system with safety risk management (Regulation (EU) 2021/1963).

The FAA's April 2024 SMS rule did not extend to Part 145 repair stations, so an FAA-only station isn't required to have one. Stations with EASA or other foreign approvals may still need one — we confirm what applies to yours and build it to fit your size.

Quality Systems Beyond Aerospace

Marine, construction, and transportation organizations use ISO 9001 as their quality management framework. The sixth edition, ISO 9001:2026, was published on September 16, 2026, and we help certified organizations plan the move to it.

For welding fabricators and shipyards, ISO 3834 sets quality requirements for fusion welding at three levels: comprehensive (Part 2), standard (Part 3), and elementary (Part 4). We help you choose the right level and build the procedures and records it requires.

How an Engagement Works

  1. Gap assessment against the standard or regulation that applies to you.
  2. A prioritized plan: what must change, in what order, and who owns each item.
  3. We write or revise the manuals, procedures, and forms.
  4. An internal audit confirms the system works as written.
  5. Corrective action support before and after your external audit.

Quality Assurance FAQ

What is the difference between AS9100 and AS9110?

AS9100 is the quality management standard for organizations that design and manufacture aviation, space, and defense products. AS9110 is based on it and adds requirements for maintenance organizations — repair stations and MROs that maintain and repair products already in service.

Does an FAA repair station need a quality manual?

Yes. Under 14 CFR 145.211, a certificated repair station must keep a quality control manual in a format acceptable to the FAA, alongside its Repair Station Manual (14 CFR 145.207).

Does our repair station need a Safety Management System (SMS)?

It depends on your approvals. The FAA's April 2024 SMS rule did not include Part 145 repair stations, but EASA has required its Part-145 organisations to have one since December 2, 2022. We'll review your certificates and confirm what applies.

Do you only work with aerospace organizations?

No. We also support marine, construction, and transportation organizations with ISO 9001 quality management systems, and welding fabricators and shipyards with ISO 3834.

Is Lion NDT itself AS9100-certified?

No. Lion NDT is an independent consulting firm. We help your organization build and maintain its own quality system; the certificate itself is issued to you by an accredited certification body.
