Quality Assurance
AS9110 Consulting for Repair Stations and MROs
We help FAA-certificated repair stations and MRO organizations build AS9110 quality management systems that fit how their shop actually works — and prepare for the certification audit.
AS9110 is the aviation, space, and defense quality management standard for maintenance organizations. It includes every ISO 9001 requirement and adds requirements specific to maintenance and continuing airworthiness. The current revision is AS9110C.
AS9110 doesn't replace your FAA, EASA, or other authority requirements — it works alongside them. Repair stations pursue it to show customers, such as OEMs and operators, that their quality system meets an internationally recognized aerospace standard.
What's Included
- AS9110C gap assessment against your current Repair Station Manual, Quality Control Manual, and procedures
- Quality manual and procedure development tied to your FAA or EASA manuals
- Maintenance-specific processes: work order control, technical data, human factors, parts control, and release to service
- Internal audit program setup and internal audits
- Root cause and corrective action, including human factors
- Certification audit preparation and response to audit findings
Who It's For
FAA-certificated repair stations and MRO organizations pursuing AS9110 certification for the first time, preparing for a surveillance or recertification audit, or working to close findings.
What AS9110 Adds to ISO 9001
AS9110C keeps every ISO 9001 requirement and adds requirements written for maintenance work. The main additions:
- Maintenance planning and control — controlling each job from receipt through release, against the correct approved data
- Technical data and airworthiness — using current, approved maintenance data and manufacturer instructions, with revisions controlled
- Human factors — recognizing and managing human error, and considering human factors in root cause analysis
- Parts control — used, rotable, and unserviceable parts, and counterfeit parts prevention
- Release to service — documented release of maintained product by authorized personnel
AS9110 or AS9100?
AS9100 is for organizations that design and manufacture aviation, space, and defense products. AS9110 is for organizations whose work is maintenance, repair, and overhaul of products already in service.
If you both manufacture parts and perform maintenance, the right answer depends on the scope of the certificate you need. We'll help you decide whether AS9110, AS9100, or both fit your business.
AS9110 and Your Repair Station Manual
An FAA repair station already keeps a Repair Station Manual and a Quality Control Manual (14 CFR 145.207 and 145.211). AS9110 doesn't replace them.
We map AS9110 requirements to what your manuals already cover, so you add only what's missing instead of running two parallel systems.
The Upcoming 9100-Series Revision
The International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG) is revising the 9100 series, AS9110 included, with the new editions to be published under the IA9100-series name. The IAQG will announce transition dates when the new editions are published; until then, AS9110C is the standard you're audited to. We track the revision so your transition plan is ready when it lands.
How an Engagement Works
- Gap assessment: AS9110C against your current manuals, procedures, and records.
- A prioritized plan, with an owner and date for each item.
- We write or revise the quality manual, procedures, and forms — tied to your RSM and QCM.
- An internal audit and management review confirm the system works as written.
- Support through the certification audit and any findings.

AS9110 FAQ
What is AS9110?
AS9110 is the quality management system standard for aviation, space, and defense maintenance organizations. It's based on ISO 9001 and adds maintenance-specific requirements such as human factors, technical data control, and release to service.
Is AS9110 required for FAA repair stations?
No. The FAA requires a Repair Station Manual and a Quality Control Manual under 14 CFR Part 145, not AS9110. AS9110 certification is voluntary, but some customers ask for it.
How long does AS9110 certification take?
It depends on how much of AS9110 your current manuals and records already cover. Our gap assessment gives you a realistic plan and timeline before you commit to an audit date.
Who issues AS9110 certification?
An accredited certification body operating under the IAQG's certification scheme. Lion NDT is a consulting firm: we help you prepare, and the certificate is issued to you by the certification body.
Do you work with repair stations outside Florida?
Yes. We're based in Miami, FL, and travel for on-site work wherever our services are requested.
