At the 2026 FAA and EASA International Safety Conference in Chantilly, Virginia (June 16–18), the two agencies reaffirmed their commitment to deeper cooperation on aviation safety — a pledge that matters more to repair stations and manufacturers than the diplomatic language might suggest.

What was actually announced. The commitments center on strengthening information exchange on safety oversight, advancing Safety Management Systems toward proactive, data-driven decision-making, expanding collaboration on operational data to support rulemaking, and streamlining approval processes for advanced aviation technologies. The agencies also committed to enhanced information sharing on emerging risks — cyber threats, GPS interference, and extreme weather — under the existing US-EU Aviation Safety Agreement framework.

Why this matters for shops working both sides of the Atlantic. Repair stations and manufacturers holding both FAA and EASA approvals routinely absorb the cost of two overlapping — and not always aligned — oversight regimes: duplicate documentation, separate audit cycles, and SMS frameworks that don't always speak the same language.
